About Us

It started with the inspiration in a magazine. A photo of words on a wall that didn't take a lot of time or skill, words that struck a chord with where design elements were going at the time. Using a wall for a medium for a graphic design, for an inspirational sentiment, or even just to add a touch of personalization is not new, but using the vinyl medium makes it quick, easy, and an affordable perfect touch to any space. Four cutters and several thousand orders later, we're a growing business with a dozen employees, a website that needs an overhaul, and the various growing pains that come with taking everything to the next level.

Here at Trading Phrases our passions run deep for typographic design. Inspiration comes from all over: art, fabric, quotes, design, music, just about everywhere. Most of all, our inspiration comes from our customers and their ideas for new designs, or perfect amendments to existing designs. Our lettering designs allow you to personalize your space, no matter how temporary or permanent, with bold and beautiful decals. Our products have graced libraries, schools, wedding dance floors, restaurants, stores, and far more personal abodes than we can even fathom.

Our environment is a fun, creative environment where we blend musicians, artists, creative souls, students, and entertainers, and blend in a healthy mix of business and professionalism. Our designs are as unique as our designers, and our commitment is to making sure our customers get what they want.

A few fun facts as of Dec 31, 2009

We've shipped decals to 49 states (hey Maine, is it something we said?)
94% of our orders come from the U.S., 5% Canada, and the rest are 1%.
Our designs can be found in thousands of homes, businesses, schools, and other locations.
We employ 12 people currently, and are located in two cities: Columbus, OH and Phenix City, AL
We currently have over 1400 designs (with more added every day), 62 color options, and size and personalization options add up to over 350,000 ways to have it your way.
We offer free color samples and a free custom design process-we find that our customers can be our best designers. In fact, we've sent out over 500 color sample cards since we started keeping track in September.
Each order includes a practice piece to test the surface and the installation technique, full installation instructions, a promotional design, and a handy Chizzler scraper to make installation (and removal) a breeze.
Our decals can be off the wall, and work well on any smooth solid surface such as tile, mirror, glass, furniture, doors, floors, and everywhere in between.
We partner with interior designers to get their clients the perfect design and offer a discount for TODL members.
We love working with event and wedding coordinators, and have graced the dance floors for weddings from the small to the extravagant-in this case we love getting walked on
